I then installed open-ssh, sshed in, changed the passwords, edited that XML file to make the database writable by amarok, reinstalled amarok with the latest version of libgpod (may not be necessary, but I was having issues with the old one), and connected via amarok to transfer music and used the built-in music player to play it. To jailbreak I useed QuickPwn, which is pretty easy and walks you through the steps. If you are getting an ipod touch make sure the version you are getting can be jailbroken all of first-gen can be, and just recently 2G can too I have a 2G and jailbreaking worked like a charm, but I can't make any garauntees. I do not have any video on mine I manage music using amarok as discussed earlier in this thread, and I do all of my app management on the device itself, through the appstore and cydia (which is like the appstore for thirdparty things after you jailbreak). There are various stages at which it could breakl some are reversable, some maybe not.ĭe velopment is free once it is jailbroken that is one of the motivations for jailbreaking, to allow third-party software that apple may not support to be installed on the device. If jailbreaking goes wrong, it could ruin your ipod. Actually come to think of it I think I mkay have had to add myself to the fuse group I'm not entirely sure of the full implications of doing that though, so I would seek a better explaination.
